Kitchen refurbishment

A Refurbished Kitchen Without the Rip-Out

Kitchen refurbishment in Bournemouth, done our way, means keeping the cabinets that are still sound and replacing the parts that make a kitchen look old: the doors, drawer fronts, end panels, plinths, handles and worktop. You keep the plumbing where it is, the appliances where they fit, and most of your budget in your pocket.

We're part of the Haroys Group, a Poole joinery maker since 1976, so we know how a kitchen is built and which bits are worth saving. Plenty of kitchens in Bournemouth were built well and simply look tired. Those are the ones we refurbish. If yours needs more than that, we'll tell you at the visit.

Refurbish or replace?

Is Your Kitchen a Good Candidate?

A refurbishment works when the structure is good and only the surface has aged. Open a cupboard and look at the box behind the door. If the sides are firm, the shelves sit level and there's no swelling along the bottom edge, you're probably in the right place.

  • Good signs: carcasses that are firm and dry, a layout that works for you, appliances you're keeping, and doors that are simply faded, chipped or out of fashion.
  • Worth a closer look: one or two units damaged by a leak, a worn hinge side, or a corner unit you'd like to rethink. These can often be swapped on their own.
  • Probably time for new: chipboard that has swollen right through, a layout that fights you every day, or a room you're about to knock through. Here a refurbishment would be money spent in the wrong place.

We'd rather tell you a refurbishment isn't right than sell you new doors on boxes that won't last. Read our refurbishment questions

Prices

What Does Kitchen Refurbishment Cost in Bournemouth?

Most of the price comes down to how many doors and fronts your kitchen has and which worktop you choose. These are the ranges most of our Bournemouth customers fall into.

New doors & fronts

£2,200–£4,000

  • What's included: A medium kitchen (12–16 doors and drawer fronts), plus end panels, plinths, hinges and handles, fitted

New worktops

£500–£5,000

  • What's included: A typical L-shaped run in laminate through to quartz, with upstands and cut-outs

Typical prices, confirmed in writing after a free home visit. Your quote lists every item separately.

The doors and worktops pages break these figures down by kitchen size and material. For your own number, book a visit.

What changes

What a Refurbishment Can Change

Doors & Drawer Fronts

The biggest visual change. Choose a new style and colour, from classic shaker to flat handleless fronts.

End Panels, Plinths & Cornice

Matching panels and kickboards so the sides and base of the kitchen look as new as the doors.

Handles & Hinges

New handles in the finish you like, and fresh hinges so every door closes softly and sits straight.

Worktops & Upstands

A new surface over the existing units, with upstands to match and clean cut-outs for the sink and hob.

Sink & Tap

A new sink or tap can usually go in when the worktop changes. We'll confirm what's possible at your visit.

Splashbacks

A fresh splashback behind the hob finishes the look. Options are talked through when we measure up.

Honest About When Not to Refurbish

If the cabinets won't last, we'll say so and explain why, even though it means a different job.

  1. Home Visit & Measure

We come to you, check every cabinet, measure each door and drawer, and look at the worktop, sink and hob.

  2. Choose Doors, Colours & Worktops

We bring samples and talk through styles, colours, handles and worktop materials that suit the room and budget.

  3. Fixed Quote & Fitting Date

  4. Fit, Tidy & Walk-Round

We swap the doors and fronts, fit the worktop, then walk round the kitchen with you to check every door and drawer.

Your questions

Kitchen Refurbishment Questions

How long does a kitchen refurbishment take?

The fitting itself is usually a matter of days, not weeks, because the cabinets, plumbing and wiring stay where they are. The longer wait is for made-to-measure doors and stone worktops. We'll give you both timings at your visit.

Can you match doors to my existing units?

Yes. Doors and fronts are made to the exact sizes of your cabinets, including odd widths, corner units and integrated appliance doors.

Is refurbishing cheaper than a new kitchen?

Usually, by a wide margin. You're paying for the doors, worktop and fitting, not new cabinets, strip-out, plumbing, electrics or making good.

Can I use my kitchen while you work?

For most of the job, yes. The sink and hob are only out of action while a new worktop goes in, and we'll tell you when that will be.

What happens to my old doors and worktops?

We take them away when we finish, so you aren't left with a pile in the garden.

Local homes

Refurbishing Kitchens from Southbourne to Swanage

Homes round here vary more than most. There are Victorian villas in Boscombe and Westbourne, many now divided into flats with compact kitchens. There are 1930s semis and post-war bungalows across Kinson, Christchurch, Ferndown and New Milton, Purbeck stone cottages in Swanage and Wareham, and holiday homes along the coast that need a quick refresh between seasons. A refurbishment suits all of them, because the work fits the room you already have.
